2020 Jeep Compass VS. Ford Escape

The new 2020 Jeep Compass has a lot to offer when it comes to connectivity and performance - but how does it stand up to its rival SUVs? We've done the research for you and compared the Compass to the new Ford Escape. Read more below to see how it stands up to the competition and when you're ready to take a Compass for a spin, come see us at McKinney Jeep RAM Chrysler Dodge in Easley, SC.

Performance

While the Escape has decent power under its hood, the Compass surpasses it with a 2.4L Tigershark engine. It also offers better acceleration with a manual transmission as well as a nine-speed automatic, while the Escape only offers an eight-speed with no manual transmission. The Compass can automatically offset hazardous road conditions with its drift compensation steering feature, assisting the driver in keeping the vehicle on the road more easily. The Escape does not offer this feature. In addition, while the Escape gets more miles per gallon, the Jeep Compass uses only regular unleaded gas. The Escape option with the 2.0 turbo 4 cyl. engine requires premium gas, which can really put a dent in your wallet over time.

Technology and Comfort

The Compass is built to help make your drive comfortable, no matter what type of terrain you're trekking across. With standard cornering lights to help illuminate around tight turns, the Compass actively helps you avoid obstacles. This feature is not available in the Escape. The Compass also offers standard de-fogging outside mirrors to increase visibility. This feature will cost you more in the Escape. The Jeep Compass also provides standard dual-zone air conditioning for both the driver and front passenger, as well as optional air-conditioned seats. The Escape does not offer air-conditioned seats and if you want dual-zone climate controls, you have to upgrade to the Titanium trim level.

Safety

Both the Compass and the Escape offer plenty of standard safety features to help keep you and your passengers safe. Both vehicles offer standard airbag systems as well as features such as traction control, electronic stability to prevent skidding, four-wheel antilock brakes, rearview cameras, and more. However, the Compass goes the extra mile when it comes to safety features. The Compass Trailhawk features a standard hill-descent control which allows the vehicle to descend safely. The Compass also offers pre-crash front seatbelt pretensioners in the event an impending crash is detected. Escape does not offer this feature.
