"With the growing demand for our products, we are constantly evaluating how to best meet powertrain production requirements," said Brian Harlow, Vice President and Head of Powertrain Manufacturing. "In this case, we are fortunate that we had an existing facility that could accommodate the additional capacity needs for Tigershark and one that has the know-how to support that additional production."1
11.5 million will go into the Trenton North plant to create a new assembly line for the Tigershark engine. This motor made its debut in the Dodge Dart and will also be featured in the coming Jeep Cherokee.
The additional $40.5 million will go towards furthering production of engine heads and blocks for the four-cylinder engine at the Dundee plant.
In total, Chrysler estimates that the new increase in equipment will create an additional 298 jobs. The project is expected to be up and running by the end of September.
