Many pickup truck enthusiasts have been patiently waiting for the tow ratings of the 2014 RAM 1500. We here at McKinney Dodge Ram Chrysler Jeep are excited to inform you that the wait is over as RAM recently announced the specs for this award winning pickup.
The new RAM 1500 was rated with best-in-class tow capacity of 7,450 lbs. when driven by the brands 305-hp Pentastar V-6 engine. In literal terms this means no other V-6 pickup currently on the market that can match the 1500 in towing power.
Chief Engineer for RAM, Mike Cairns, sheds some light on what it takes to achieve this best-in-class tow rating, mentioning, "There was more towing capacity in the V-6 Ram 1500 but we needed to upgrade the transmission to hold the truck and trailer when parked on steep grades. Now that we're building the transmissions ourselves, the improvements are included in the new assembly."1
The new 13.0-liter V-6 EcoDiesel engine also offered in the RAM 1500 has a tow rating of 9,200 lbs. in a two-door, 2WD, long bed variant. The new efficient engine falls just shy of standard V-8 towing capacity, despite the fact that it's a V-6.
This marks yet another tribute to the new RAM lineup. The brand has received many awards and accolades for its new technology in the current and coming model year, helping RAM Trucks see year-over-year sales growth.
