Pickup trucks account for about 20% of the vehicles on the road today and 16.5% of new vehicle registrations. One of the most popular trucks sold is the Ram 1500 Big Horn. This shouldn't be a surprise, as it comes in a wide range of trim levels to suit anyone's needs.

The first step in owning your own Ram 1500 is choosing a trim. Don't let this intimidate you, as the long feature lists can feel overwhelming. This guide breaks down the Ram 1500 trim levels to make the decision simple.

Tradesman

If you need a rough and rugged work truck, look no further than the base trim of Tradesman. This basic truck delivers precisely what you need and nothing more.

The fanciest technology that comes on this truck is the backup camera. There are also power windows and locks and an electric parking brake. You can choose between the quad or crew ca when choosing your configuration. Consider the bed size when deciding; it will be a 6'4″ or 5'7″ bed.

For power, the Tradesman comes stock with the Pentastar V6 engine. However, you can upgrade it to one of Ram's stronger engines, up to the 5.7-liter HEMI or the 3.0-liter V6 turbo diesel.

Tradesman HFE

The HFE stands for high fuel efficiency but is essentially a base model truck. The included fuel efficiency upgrades are the only difference between it and the Tradesman. It comes in both bed lengths, but if you want the larger cab, it comes with the shorter bed.

To keep the truck fuel efficient, it only comes in 2-wheel drive. In addition, the 3.6-liter V6 engine comes with Ram's proprietary eTorque system. This system turns the truck into a sort of hybrid by shutting off at stop lights and charging the battery when braking.

Ram 1500 Big Horn

The Big Horn is the most popular Ram 1500 model because it is the best value for the money. Choose from crew or quad cab. This will give you either a 5'7″ or a 6'4″ bed.

The Big Horn comes standard with the 3.6L V6 engine with eTorque. However, you can also upgrade to the 5.7L V8 HEMI, the HEMI with eTorque, and the 3.0L V6 Turbo Diesel. There are also three transmission and gear ratio options.

When it comes to features, the world is at your fingertips. You can fully customize your truck from wheels and lights to the infotainment system and technology. The truck also has driver assist and safety features, making it the perfect truck for driving your family.

Laramie

If technology interests you, then the Laramie is the trim package to take a closer look at. It comes with everything the Big Horn has, but with a few extra technology feature upgrades. Starting with the outside of the truck, the Laramie sports LED headlamps, fog lights, and taillights.

Moving to the inside of the truck, drivers will appreciate the heated and ventilated leather-trimmed seats. Thanks to the memory features, you'll only have to use the ten-way power adjustable settings once. Even the steering wheel is trimmed in leather and heated.

Rebel

Do you want to take the path less traveled? Then go on your next adventure with the Rebel. This truck comes built and ready for off-roading.

Everything that comes on the Laramie comes on the Rebel. However, it also has a locking rear axle, a sport hood, and Goodyear DuraTrac tires.

The vinyl and cloth seats are easier to keep clean. Then thanks to the ten-way power feature, they are also easier to make comfortable. Finally, there is a suite of available features to fully outfit your truck for the off-road.

  • Off-Road Group (4x4)
  • Advanced Safety Group
  • 360-degree trailer surround view camera

Limited Longhorn

Some truck owners want more luxury than a workhorse. This truck stands out with a chrome grille with strong horizontal slats and matching chrome accents throughout the truck. Completing the look is LED lighting.

The Longhorn comes standard with the 3.6L V6 engine and eTorque system. However, you can upgrade to one of three other engine options if you want more power. Choose from the 5.7L V8 HEMI, the HEMI engine with eTorque, or the 3.0L V6 turbo diesel.

Moving to the interior, you'll find leather upholstery, an 8.4 infotainment system, and wood accents. In addition, the truck is 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot capable. For sound, it has a nine-speaker Alpine sound system.

Limited

If the Limited Longhorn isn't your style or you're looking for the ultimate in high-end trucking, then the Limited is the truck of choice. The chrome inserts are minimal. It has an LED light package, but it adds LED headlights.

The Limited comes standard with a bigger engine, the 5.7L V8 HEMI. However, you can also choose from two other engine options, the HEMI with eTorque or the 3.0L Turbo Diesel.

In addition to the features found on the Longhorn, the Limited also comes with heated seats. It comes standard with leather upholstery for the bucket seats. The infotainment screen is also larger at an impressive 12 inches.

TRX

For those looking to get their heart racing and their adrenaline pumping, the TRX comes in with a roar. The Supercharged 6.2L HEMI V8 engine delivers plenty of power and performance. To complete the performance package, this truck also comes with a Bilstein Black Hawk e² shock system, eight drive modes, and a high-performance dual exhaust system.

Technology features abound, starting with the 12-inch infotainment display. Ram also includes the Uconnect 5C NAV system. Towing will be easier thanks to the 360-degree trailer view cameras that automatically display when needed.

Then there is the 19-speaker Harman Kardon stereo system, perfect for pumping up the tunes while cruising down the road.
